I once heard a statistic about first-time filmmakers that shocked me!
65% of them never make a second.
That’s right 65% of first-time filmmakers never go on to make a second movie.
That’s crazy…and if you are like us, you probably don’t want to just make one movie. And you probably don’t just want to make a second movie.
You want to make a body or work!
And just like us, you probably aspire to be like your filmmaking heroes—Kubrick, or Fincher, or Lynne Ramsay, who have a body of work they are proud of!
But how do you get there? And what do you do now that the film industry is contracting?
I mean, no one is getting jobs in LA, and people have been out of work for a long time because of the strikes and COVID, and now there is AI to contend with. Holy cow!!
So how do you get your first one off the ground? Then how do you get your second one off the ground?
You can no longer rely on a strategy of “hope” or “hustle.”
You need a strategy that is actually going to work. One from the masters of independent cinema, who’ve been around for 30+ years, and are reliably turning out feature after feature.
And that is why we have put this 5-part live event together.
This live event will help you level up where it counts!
We are going to learn their secrets. Such as, if you can’t shoot in the U.S., are there strategies to shoot outside of the country, leverage tax incentives, and if you do not have a lot of money to make your movie, well, guess what…Ross Katz (prod: Lost in Translation) is an expert in using tiny budgets to maximize projects.
We’ve got case studies where we look at Josh Mond (dir: James White, prod: Martha Marcy May Marlene), Crystal Moselle (dir: Skate Kitchen) & Derrick B. Harden and how they were able to beat the game and get multiple projects greenlit in an extraordinarily competitive market.
And we bookend the series with Christine Vachon (prod: Past Lives, May December, Boys Don’t Cry) who is an absolute indie legend and in the dogfight with us, and has the strategies to show us how to get started. What you need to stand out and not be one of the 65%.
We also have Ted Hope (former head of Amazon Studios) who pretty much birthed indie cinema in New York City, and is going to show us a different way of working in this new independent filmmaking landscape.
Now, if you’d prefer to spend your time griping about how you cannot get anywhere, and that it’s all too hard to get a feature up, then go for it!
But that’s not us!
We’d rather put these events on (at cost mind you) and give people a chance to hear from those in the trenches. It gives you a chance to learn from them, hear what’s working now, and you’ll be able to make a genuine connection on the call that will up-level your filmmaking career and pay dividends down the road.
