Enlight’s animated fantasy sequel, Ne Zha 2, is now the 10th highest-grossing film of all time, hitting $1.6bn.
Directed by Yang Yu, the movie is loosely based on a classic Chinese myth and is set immediately after the events of the previous 2019 film. (Ne Zha, still impressive, made $700 M worldwide during its theatrical run).
Official Sequel Synopsis:
After the catastrophe, although the souls of Nexha and Aobing were saved, their bodies would soon be shattered, Taiyi Zhenren planned to use the seven-colored lotus to rebuild their bodies.
Ne Zha 2 has been on a tear since it was released during the Lunar New Year corridor in China (Jan. 28-Feb.4). It set the single-film box office record for the holiday in the market’s history, and this past Thursday surpassed The Battle at Lake Changjin to become China’s biggest film ever.
The film opened last weekend in North America.
Winner of this year’s Sundance Special Jury and Audience Award, DJ Ahmet has been sold to multiple international territories by Berlin-based sales agency Films Boutique (The Seed of the Sacred Fig). Director Georgi M. Unkovski’s celebrated feature-length debut is a fictional coming-of-age story following a wannabe young musician, with the film showcasing where and how the filmmaker grew up in Northern Macedonia.
The Paris-based indie powerhouse MK2 Films (Anatomy of a Fall) has brought on Emmanuel Pisarra as the new head of acquisitions. Pisarra is joining the growing MK2 Films team after previously serving as an executive at the French production company Kinology (distributor: The Beast, Sales Rep: DogMan). He is set to represent his new company by attending the Berlin Film Festival later this month to shape MK2 Films’ upcoming slate.
