Apple's Time Travel Romance.
Apple Originals has secured the film rights to Once and Again, the upcoming romance novel from bestselling author Rebecca Serle. Showrunner Liz Tigelaar, proficient in writing series adaptations (Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things and Little Fires Everywhere) is set to pen the screenplay. Described as The Time Traveler’s Wife mixed with The Lakehouse, the forthcoming story follows a woman whose picture perfect life is threatened when she temporarily moves back home.
Dark comedy novel Horrorstör is getting made into a feature film with Searchlight Pictures and 50/50 (2011) director Jonathan Levine on board for the adaptation. The story unfolds in a mega furniture store, where a manager convinces his employees to stay overnight and confront the unexplained disturbances lurking after hours. Levine’s only prior experience with horror was the zombie book to movie adaptation Warm Bodies (2013).
Through her multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM, The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang is developing Never Be Found, a psychological thriller feature based on Jo Spain’s upcoming novel The Confession. While reflecting on her past, the book’s protagonist, Veronica, gets involved with a suspected murderer.
Author Alanna Bennett is making her latest novel The Education of Kira Greer into a TV series with Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another (The Idea of You) production outfit. Equal parts sweeping romance, society satire, and coming of age story it follows the youngest child of one of Hollywood’s most famous families navigating her life in the spotlight.
The rights to Madeline, the beautifully illustrated and classic children’s book series, have been acquired by Sycamore Studios (Zita the Spacegirl) with an animated, musical feature in development. The studio will be looking to expand the Paris set franchise following the adorable orphan and friends across film and TV.
