Good morning: In today's edition of The Industry, we look at:

A Fistful of Remakes, Lionsgate's King Arthur, Universal's jaded women, Naomie Harris's death wish, A24's distorted reality and a dandelion.

Let’s go!

A Fistful of Dollars. United Artists.

Clint Eastwood’s classic A Fistful of Dollars (1964) is getting a remake.

The original film forged Eastwood into an American icon as the enigmatic Man with No Name.

Here’s the original synopsis:

With nothing but profit on his mind, a taciturn American with a lightning-fast right hand rides into San Miguel, a sun-bleached border town where everyone is either rich or dead, providing the perfect opportunity to make a quick buck. The mysterious stranger soon finds himself caught in the middle of a destructive, long-standing feud.

The success of A Fistful of Dollars led to a wave of European films set in the American West, personifying the archetypical cowboy with harsher environments, darker themes, and ambiguous characters no longer upholding the fantasy and ideals of Western lore.

The adaptation is being helmed by Euro Gang Entertainment, founded by Gianni Nunnari, who EP’d The Departed, Se7en, and Shutter Island.

The team at Euro Gang Entertainment said:

“We are determined to produce a remake that does justice to the great Sergio Leone’s classic.”

Today's antiheroes often require much more character architecture, so it’ll be interesting to see how an adaptation handles Eastwood's cinema-changing performance.

Perhaps it’ll be even more atmospheric than the original. A stretch goal for sure but look no further than Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled starring Colin Farrell was a remake of Eastwood’s 1971 film of the same name. Eastwood’s anxiety-inducing version of the film is suspenseful while laced with dark humor, unlike Farrell’s more subtle atmospheric film.

A Fistful of Dollars remake currently has no writer or director attached.
