Criterion Collection. Olympics. Hans Zimmer.
Two Netflix films are hitting the Criterion Collection. Frankenstein and KPop Demon Hunters join the greats like two of my favorite Criterion Films, Ikiru and Solaris. This is great because Netflix stopped sending DVDs back in 2023.
Not surprisingly, the Olympics are driving massive engagement numbers. HBOMax and Discovery+ (WBD’s streaming platforms) saw a 234% growth from the last winter Olympics: Beijing 2022. And on NBC, they’ve seen a 200% growth since the last Olympics, jumping up to an average of 23.5M in 2026 from 12M average in 2022.
Netflix’s All the Sinners Bleed finds a composer in Hans Zimmer. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Slow Horses Season 3) portrays the first black sheriff in a small Virginia town, as he tries to unravel a mystery involving a serial killer. Obama’s Higher Ground is producing. Sounds legendary.
Snow day equals no movies? AMC, among many other major theater chains, are closing for the day with tentative plans to open tomorrow due to the current power-surging blizzard hitting the northeast.
TV director Daniel Minahan (Game of Thrones) is now attached to HBO’s How to Survive Without Me, a new drama starring Ray Romano from Greg Berlanti (Brilliant Minds). Romano will play the widowed patriarch of a grieving family. Minhahan is currently working on Hulu’s highly anticipated YA series Foster Dade.
Longtime script consultant, screenwriter, and author Linda Seger has passed away. With impressive clients like Lord of the Rings creator Peter Jackson, her eleven books on screenwriting have been praised and dissected by many filmmakers, including Ron Howard! She will be missed.
