Documentary+'s Sushi
Documentary+ dreams of Sushi. The global doc distributor has picked up TIFF’s Still Single, about the world of Chef Masaki Saito, Canada’s first Michelin two-star sushi chef. No word on release date.
Topic Studio (A Real Pain) launches a UK non-fiction venture, Puzzle Pictures. The new production studio will focus on premium nonfiction and unscripted projects, led by Emmy-winning filmmaker Sam Hobinkson.
Icelandic actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) is teaming up with Emmy-winning director Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) for a new chilling psychological drama. Dead Water is a story rooted in Nordic unease, a murder mystery told during one gruesomely horrific night. Ólafsson’s Act4 production banner is behind the project.
Canada’s Postmedia Studios and Elevation Pictures (dist. Marty Supreme) are working together on a new nature documentary titled Fire Weather. The film explores the human, environmental, and societal impacts of wildfires. The doc is the first of several Canadian projects the two companies will finance and develop together.
