Fifth Season (prod co: Severance) promotes Sheridan Thayer to EVP, Head of TV Physical Production. A 30-year vet, Thayer previously served as SVP and Deputy Head of Production. She’s produced hits like Monk while at NBC and was the SVP of production at Legendary. She’ll oversee physical production across Fifth Season’s expanding global slate.

Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions (Get Out, Him) has undergone extensive layoffs in its development department. The company’s three Vice Presidents of Development and Production, as well as five staffers at the assistant level, were affected by this decision, with no reasoning released. This decision comes shortly ahead of the release of one of this year’s most anticipated movies, Peele’s horror football film, Him, which is expected this September.
Netflix has several adaptations in the works. Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Age of Innocence, is in development as a limited series with Netflix. The will-they/won’t-they love triangle was previously adapted by Martin Scorsese in 1993 (trailer) with a stellar cast featuring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder. Romance dramas have proven to be successful with Netflix's audience, given the hit series Bridgerton, which was also adapted.
Netflix has acquired a collection of short stories, Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri, for a new series from showrunner, writer, and EP John Wells (The Pitt, Shameless). Unaccustomed Earth is an epic and culturally vibrant collection of stories about a tight-knit Indian American community navigating love, desire, and belonging. The writing process for the eight-episode series is reportedly close to completion, with no word yet of a premiere date.
