Do people think Dune II is just off the list for this Oscar race? For the survival of the Oscars I was hoping they would acknowledge Villeneuve and Nolan back-to-back.
A political choice I would make as a voting body . . . Did the "Part III" announcement just kill the awards buzz.
NOT CLOSE to my favourite film of the year but it's a good narrative (without Part III's looming influence).
Dune II is an amazing movie, and honestly, I think it'll pick up some craft awards. But sci-fi in general, doesn't get much Best Picture love at the Oscars.
I think Hollywood should still pivot to reward it. They need to justify the slop. For me, Dune II winning Best Pic is the only outcome that would redeem Hollywood for this pitiful year of flops and sex scandals and political disasters. I didn't say it was likely to win but that it should be nominated at least, essentially.
I WANT The Brutalist to win but I just think it's been such a bad year that we need a more crowd-pleasing win that proves Hollywood can still meet the audiences where they are. Dune Part II is a better narrative for more people . . . So I'm just thinking pragmatically. I even liked a few of the flops (Folie a Deux) but the disgust for Hollywood is at an all-time high too. A Dune II win would rewrite that in history, at least partially.
It's a problematic argument because it's all about narrative and Hollywood needing to redeem itself for most folks.
This is what it’s all about!! SO awesome to hear about artists coming together and bringing hope to the world with their work. 🖤❤️🩹✨
Now excuse me while I add all these films to my watch list…
Yes! It was such a beautiful night for indie cinema. Enjoy the movies, and let us know which ones are your favorites.
