Iron Man’s Millions, FX's Friends, Seinfeld's Thunderbolts, Kevin Smith takes us back, and Theatrical & Streaming recommendations.
Let’s go!
WHAT’S COMING NEXT - THEATRICAL & STREAMING
Have you ever struggled to find something good to watch?
Have you ever scrolled through Netflix for half an hour and closed it in frustration? Not to mention keeping track of theatrical release dates for festival indies that you’re dying to watch. If you tracked your time spent scrolling and checking, it would probably equal the runtime of a couple of movies combined. In my case, that’s not even a joke!
Recently we read
’s post where he called out for a solution to this very problem, so we decided to do something about it.For theatrical this week, we’ve selected 24 indies in limited and wide release and broken them out by release date, with links to trailers and showtimes.
For streaming, we’ve selected 54 movies and provided trailers and links to the streaming platform to add to your watchlist.

THE INDUSTRY NEWS
Big paydays for Avengers. After the bombshell announcement (video) that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret War, it’s been disclosed that he will have a massive payday:
$100 M for both films
+Box office bonuses
This seems to be the best, albeit an expensive option, given the films had to make a massive pivot to find a new villain after Marvel severed ties with Jonathan Majors (slated to play Kang) after his assault conviction.
Marvel hopes that Downey Jr. will revitalize the MCU, which has been in a creative slump (other than the refreshing Deadpool & Wolverine), just as he did with Iron Man (2008).
He comes back to the MCU with an Oscar win under his belt (Oppenheimer).
So what drew him back other than the massive payday? It’s the Russo Brothers who will now be directing both pictures. That was a precondition for Downey Jr.’s return.
The brothers will earn:
$80 M for both films
Performance escalators at $750 M and $1 bn mark
As an extra kicker, the directing duo has wrestled production away from Marvel and brought it in-house to their production company AGBO.
As Marvel’s power as box office king has wavered, it allows their top-performing talent (the Russo-directed Avengers: Endgame, which grossed $2.8 bn, the second highest film of all time) to take more control.
Snowflakes! FX has ordered the comedy series Snowflakes, set to premiere next year, and Nick Kroll (Big Mouth, The Kroll Show) is set to executive produce.
The logline is a bit banal but promises sitcom comfortability and hijinks.
The series follows a group of 20-something housemates trying to be good people despite being neither ‘good’ nor ‘people’ yet. They are a bunch of lovable losers living in New York City.
Sounds a bit like a Gen Z Friends.
Created and written by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw (Jimmy Fallon Writer). Slated to premiere sometime in 2025.
FX is coming off 93 Emmy nominations (their highest ever) for Shōgun, The Bear, and Fargo.
THE ACTOR SPOTLIGHT
Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be kicking ass in Thunderbolts*: She has played Elaine in Seinfeld, the VP in Veep, and now the shady government operative Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Marvel's upcoming baddie team-up movie.
