Over the last few days, there have been several major project announcements at CinemaCon, which is being held in Las Vegas.

Here’s a breakdown by studio:

Amazon MGM’s new slate:

  • ​Red One​

    • Starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans

    • Genre: Christmas action movie

    • Plot: “Fire-breathing” Santa Claus rescue

    • First-look ​still​ of Johnson and Santa

    • Theatrical? Release date: Nov. 15

  • ​The Nickel Boys​

    • Producer: Plan B

    • Starring: Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard)

    • Plot: A spare and devastating exploration of abuse at a reform school in Jim Crow-era Florida that is ultimately a powerful tale of human perseverance, dignity and redemption

  • ​Project Hail Mary​

    • Starring: Ryan Gosling

    • Plot: An astronaut tries to save Earth while alone in outer space

    • Dir: Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street)

    • Writer: Drew Goddard (The Matrix 5)

    • Slated for 2026 release

Amazon discussed ​preserving​ the theatrical experience.

Warner Bros. Discovery:

  • ​Mickey 17​

    • Dir: Bong Joon-Ho

    • Starring: Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette

    • Plot: Pattinson dies over and over again in a space mission that feels a lot like Groundhog Day

    • Key trailer detail: Pattinson’s voice sounds like “Joe Pesci as Tweety Bird”

    • Release date: Jan 2025

  • ​Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story​

    • Emotional Trailer debut

Lionsgate passes Go:

  • ​Monopoly​

    • Producer: Hasbro + Margot Robbie’s Lucky Chap

Zev Foreman, Head of Film for Hasbro Entertainment, said:

“As one of the most iconic games in the world, ‘Monopoly’ provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said of Lucky Chap:

“They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join ‘Monopoly’ with a clear point of view.”

Monopoly has sold 500 million copies and is recognized by almost everyone in the world.

    • Dir: Antoine Fuqua

    • Plot: Michael Jackson biopic

    • New info: will feature 30 songs

  • ​Never Let Go​

    • Starring: Halle Berry

    • Genre: Horror

    • Plot: A family that has been haunted by an evil spirit for years. Their safety and their surroundings come into question when one of the children questions if the evil is real

    • In theaters Sept 17th

Lionsgate also had some fun info on ​Twisters​ (starring Glen Powell), ​Highlander​ (starring Henry Cavill) and, Mel Gibson’s ​Flight Risk​ (starring Mark Wahlberg as a psycho hitman).
