THE INDUSTRY NEWS

Ocean’s 11. Warner Bros.

Oceans 14 is moving forward… and while this could be a dumpster fire a la Oceans 12 (where the cast treated the set like a playground), I’m hoping that enough time has passed where this could be a rare blockbuster sequel that is both resonant and garners major studio dollars.

Here are the details: https://theindustry.co/p/george-clooney-a-dumpster-fire

Larry Ellison, King of Paramount. According to an FCC filing, here’s the breakdown of who will own National Amusements, which has a controlling stake in Paramount Global:

  • 77.5% Larry Ellison

  • 22.5% Gerry Cardinale, Founder & Managing Partner of RedBird Capital (Skydance backer)

A-listers Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen lead Paramount+’s new eight-episode drama, JonBenét Ramsey.

Here’s the official synopsis, which is said to be a new take on the harrowing true story:

Patsy and John Ramsey, exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people - as husband and wife, as mother and father - who had committed themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life only to have it destroyed one Christmas night in 1996.

In The Industry News, the full scoop on the first new DCU series coming later this year. Plus, a new trailer for Nickel Boys. Will it be a Best Picture Contender?

In Actor’s Spotlight, we have Mad Man Jon Hamm vs. Billy Bob Thornton in a surprisingly primal Paramount+ series. Also, Amy Adams gets musical, and Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are sickeningly good friends in a new trailer with no conflict.

In Festivals, we break down a seven-figure sale at TIFF from a first-time director. Plus, a Venice premiere is in good standing for The Golden Lion.

For Indie Filmmaker Spotlight, we look at the directorial debut from the Dune writer Jon Spaihts and Apple & A24 make a seaside documentary that will have you holding your breath.
