THE 77th EMMY WINNERS
From Adolescence to The Studio to The Pitt
Best Drama Series
The Pitt (HBO Max)
The show navigates through their personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients. All the while triaging the most crucial question for these workers: when do we treat the patients as a body and when do we treat them as a human being?
Best Actor in a Drama Series
Noah Wyle, The Pitt (HBO Max)
In the show, Wyle is noble but tormented as he presses through what he calls his hospital’s “deli of death.”
Best Actress in a Drama Series
Britt Lower, Severance (Apple TV+)
This season allowed us to see both sides of Lower’s character, Helly. To say any more would spoil some of the joys of the season.
Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Tramell Tillman, Severance (Apple TV+)
In Season 2, Tillman came face-to-face with his Lumon bosses and swallowed his pride as he was demeaned in a way that was hard to watch. (Best of S2 clips).
Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Katherine LaNasa, The Pitt (HBO)
She had a calming presence on The Pitt that centered the show’s chaos. When she gets hurt later in the show, there’s a grace that is transcendental yet tough.
Best Comedy Series
The Studio (Apple TV+)
Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Jean Smart, Hacks (HBO Max)
Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Seth Rogen, The Studio (Apple TV+)
He was sensational in the final episode, running around trying to rein in his boss, played by Bryan Cranston.
Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Jeff Hiller, Somebody Somewhere (HBO)
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Hannah Einbinder, Hacks (HBO)
The show will end after the upcoming Season 5
Best Limited or Anthology Series
Adolescence (Netflix)
Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Cristin Milioti, The Penguin (HBO Max)
What could’ve been a typical mob heiress role, Milioti’s standout performance as Sofia Falcone in the HBO Batman spinoff was nothing short of unpredictable and explosive (scene). Whether quietly orchestrating murder or surviving something unspeakable, Milioti’s brilliance will lie in her ability to weaponize gradual silence.
Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Stephen Graham, Adolescence (Netflix)
Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Owen Cooper, Adolescence (Netflix)
At 15, he’s the youngest male actor to win an Emmy
Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Erin Doherty, Adolescence (Netflix)
Best Writing for a Comedy Series
The Studio (Apple TV+), Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, Frida Perez
Best Writing for a Drama Series
Andor (Disney+), Dan Gilroy
Full of more intrigue and subterfuge than the also amazing first season, the narrative becomes a rapid pressure cooker, and at times, it drew from past conflicts and scarily reflected our present
Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Adolescence (Netflix), Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne
Best Directing for a Drama Series
Adam Randall, Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
Best Directing for a Comedy Series
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, The Studio (Apple TV+)
Best Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie
Philip Barantini, Adolescence (Netflix)
Barantini directed all four episodes of the series. His claustrophobic direction of the episode, where the investigators navigate the labyrinth-esque halls of the high school, is sublime
Barantini thanked everyone for creating something so “raw, so urgent, so necessary”
Adolescence (Netflix) won 6 Emmys tonight. The Studio (Apple TV+) took 4 Emmys, bringing its total to 13 Emmys, the most ever for a comedy series. The Pitt won 3 Emmys tonight.
HBO’s Last Week Tonight won its 8th consecutive Emmy for Writing for a Variety Series.
FX’s Dying for Sex and HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3 didn’t win any Emmys tonight.
And yes, Stephen Colbert won for Outstanding Talk Show. He thanked CBS in his speech.
Notable Quotes:
Tramell Tillman, who picked up a Best Supporting Emmy for Drama series (beating out many in The White Lotus cast), stated:
“You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for. Do the work. Show up. And most importantly, for the love of God, don't embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y'all. But all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me. And this is for you.”

Jeff Hiller, an underdog in HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, said in his speech for the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy:
“I feel like I'm gonna cry because for the past 25 years I've been like, world, I want to be an actor and the world's like, maybe computers. And I just want to say, you know, thank you to HBO for putting a show about sweaty middle-aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria.”
Colman Domingo announcing the category winner for Best Actor in a Drama Series:
They remind us that art is not just entertainment, it is revelation. Here are the nominees for leadership.
For More:
Host Nate Bargatze’s opening monologue was spoofing Bargatze’s own SNL skit on George Washington’s dream. But the best joke of his hosting came from when he said he’d give 100K to the Boys and Girls Club charity. But he’d deduct $1000 for every second that the winners went over their allocated time of 45seconds for their speeches (clip).
Owen Cooper, won for Adolescence, and his speech was magnetizing, partially because he’s so young, but also because his performance in the show is so chilling and nuanced. Full speech here.
Cristin Milioti’s speech for The Penguin deserves its own Emmy. Her ability to offer more and more energy with every word is profound. Clip.v

Why didn’t Giamatti win an Emmy for black mirror Eulogy?
