Vince Vaughn and Zach Braff (Garden State) to star in Apple TV+’s action comedy Bad Monkey.
Based on Carl Hiaasen’s popular novel of the same name, Bad Monkey follows Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police and is now a health inspector in the Keys as he aims to get back in with the department by proving a mysterious death was really a murder.
Because of a severed arm, Vaughn’s Yancy is now a murder suspect… see for yourself in the trailer.
Alongside Vaughn, actor Zach Braff first appears in the trailer in a room of clutter, half asleep in a bathrobe in the middle of the day. Despite only briefly showing up in the trailer, Braff’s character is quickly made to seem important to Yancy’s investigation despite his messy and bumbling persona.
Just from the trailer, the Scrubs actor appears to have completely changed pace from his most recent project, A Good Person (2023, trailer), a heartfelt but depressing drama he wrote and directed about an unlikely yet needed friendship found through AA.
Similarly, Bad Monkey diverges from Vaughn’s most recent TV work as a career criminal on the second season of HBO’s anthology crime drama True Detective (2015, trailer). Vaughn’s performance in the trailer as the mono-tone ex-cop is also unlike his past goofier roles within the comedy genre like Dodgeball (2004) or Wedding Crashers (2004), giving a more subtle and deadpan approach in Bad Monkey.
The first two episodes of Bad Monkey premiere on Apple TV+ on Aug. 14th.
