Warner Bros.’ Weapons took #1 with $42.5M domestically. It took $27.5M internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $70M.
This is a sensational result for an original horror film. Over 6x the average opening for a horror film with no sequel. And 2x the average opening for a horror film that turns into a series.
The director, Zach Cregger, started as a comedian (The Whitest Kids U’Know) and has transformed himself into a master of the horror genre.
His previous film, his first feature, was a breakout success:
Barbarian (2022)
$4.5M budget
$10.5M opening
$40.8M domestic total
$45.4M worldwide
This puts Cregger alongside another master comedian-turned-filmmaker, Jordan Peele. Take a look at Peele’s films:
Get Out (2017)
$4.5M opening
$176.2M domestic total
$255.8M worldwide
98% RT
Us (2019)
$71M opening
$175.1M domestic total
$256.1M worldwide
93% RT
Nope (2022)
$44.4M opening
$123.3M domestic total
$171.2M worldwide
83% RT
For comparison, Weapons knocked it out of the park with 95% on RT.
New Line picked up Weapons for $38M (w/ $5M going to Cregger to direct). It should be recouped by next week.
It had the top per screen average of any film in the top ten with $13.3K/screen. And was the 6th film in a row to open for Warner Bros. over $40M.
Here is the trailer.
Here’s the breakdown of the rest of the top 10:
$29M - Freakier Friday (Disney)
$44.5M worldwide
$42M budget
RT: 73%
Week 1
This is slightly above the first film in the series:
Freaky Friday (2003)
$22.2M opening
$110.2M domestic total
$160.8M worldwide
$20M budget
Freakier Friday also performed 33% better than the average comedy sequel. It came in with a ton of brand recognition and performed slightly lower than expected.
$15.5M - The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Marvel)
$230.4M domestic total
$434.2M worldwide
$200M+ production budget
RT: 73%
Week 3
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has eclipsed the previous iterations:
Fantastic Four (2005)
$56.1M opening
$154.7M domestic total
$333.5M worldwide
Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
$58.1M opening
$170M domestic total
$301.9M worldwide
Fantastic Four (2015)
$25.7M opening
$111.8M domestic total
$167.9M worldwide
However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps took a large 60% drop in its third week (67% week 2 drop). That’s significant, and is either the same or much worse than some of the recent lesser-liked Marvel films:
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
70% week 2 drop
60% week 3 drop
$106M opening
RT: 46%
The Marvels (2023)
78% week 2 drop
38% week 3 drop
$46.1M opening
RT: 62%
Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
68% week 2 drop
47% week 3 drop
$88.5M opening (3-day)
RT: 49%
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is on track to recoup.
$10.4M - The Bad Guys 2 (Universal)
$43.4M domestic total
$84M worldwide total
$80M budget
RT: 85%
Week 2
It dropped much more than the first film in its second weekend.
The Bad Guys (2022)
$23.95M opening weekend (vs. Bad Guy 1’s $22M)
$16.2M week 2 - 32% drop (vs. Bad Guy 1’s $10.4M - 53% drop)
$97.5M domestic total
$250.4M worldwide
These films perform well overseas, with China making up nearly a third of the international box office for the last film.
$8.4M - The Naked Gun (Paramount)
$33M domestic total
$56.4M worldwide total
$42M budget
RT: 90%
Week 2
With inflation, the new Naked Gun had the lowest opening in the series, and the steepest week 2 drop at 50%:
The Naked Gun (1988)
$9.3M opening ($25M w/ inflation)
34% week 2 drop
$78.8M domestic total
The Naked Gun 2½ (1991)
$20.8M opening ($49.2M w/ inflation)
44% week 2 drop
$86.9M domestic total
Naked Gun 33⅓ (1994)
$13.2M opening weekend ($28.7M w/ inflation)
39% week 2 drop
$51.1M domestic total
The Naked Gun (2025)
$16.8M opening weekend
50% week 2 drop
We’re going to hazard a guess that the good word of mouth based on Liam Neeson’s standout performance in a comedy will bring strong results in the following weeks and help this recoup.
$7.8M - Superman (Warner Bros.)
$331.2M domestic total
$578.8M worldwide total
$325M budget
RT: 83%
Week 5
It has already exceeded the domestic gross of the past two solo Superman films:
Superman (2025)
$125M domestic opening
$331.2M domestic total
$578.8M worldwide total
Man of Steel (2013)
$116.6M domestic opening
$291M domestic total
$670.1M worldwide
Superman Returns (2006)
$52.5M domestic opening
$200.1M domestic total
$391.1M worldwide
This is a huge win for James Gunn, the current head of DC Studios. Already, topping all the total grosses DC’s last releases:
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
$134.1M worldwide
Blue Beetle (2023)
$130.8M worldwide
The Flash (2023)
$271.4M worldwide
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
$440.2M worldwide
Black Adam (2022)
$393.5M worldwide
The international numbers are the one thing slowing Superman down from recouping, including marketing costs; it is said to need to earn $700M to recoup.
$4.7M - Jurassic World Rebirth (Universal)
$326.8M domestic total
$800M worldwide total
$225M budget
RT: 52%
Week 6
Jurassic World Rebirth is on track to earn less than every other film in the reboot after it’s week 6 total was lower than the rest of the series:
Jurassic World (2015)
$208M three-day weekend
$611.2M week 6 domestic total
$643.4M domestic total
$1.67bn worldwide
$150M budget
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
$148M three-day weekend
$397.5M week 6 domestic total
$417.7M domestic total
$1.31bn worldwide
$170M budget
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
$145M opening
$359.9M week 6 domestic total
$376.9M domestic total
$1bn worldwide
$583.9M budget (highest budgeted film of all time)
Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)
$326.8M week 6 domestic total
On the plus side, Jurassic World Rebirth has recouped its budget, as there’s still a dinosaur-sized appetite for these films.
$2.8M - F1 (Apple)
$178.6M domestic total
$570.7M worldwide total
$250-$300M budget
RT: 83%
Week 7
The film is outperforming internationally by a significant margin, which tracks as F1 is much more popular overseas.
The film took a 32% week 6 drop, the lowest of any film this weekend.
It is Apple’s top-performing film of all time by over 2.5x:
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
$68M domestic total
$158.8M worldwide
Napoleon (2023)
$61.5M domestic total
$221.4M worldwide
Not factoring inflation, this is Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing film of all time:
World War Z (2010)
$66.4M domestic opening
$540.5M worldwide total
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
$50.3M domestic opening
$487.3M worldwide total
Everyone in the film industry is watching as if Apple gets a good result; the hope is that they’ll re-enter the theatrical business (like Amazon), versus the pivot to streaming their films after a series of expensive failures (Argylle, Fly Me to the Moon).
$2.6M - Together (Neon)
$17.2M domestic total
$18.1M worldwide
$17M - Neon paid for the worldwide rights at Sundance
RT: 91%
Week 2
This is a strong result for a Neon horror. Although nowhere near Oz Perkins’ releases (Longlegs, The Monkey). Plus it took a larger week 2 drop than the typical Neon horror.
Longlegs (2024)
$22.4M opening
47% week 2 drop
$125.4M worldwide
The Monkey (2025)
$14.2M opening
54% week 2 drop
$68.9M worldwide
Together (2025)
$6.8M opening
62% week 2 drop
Immaculate (2024)
$5.3M opening
39% week 2 drop
$35.3M worldwide
Cuckoo (2024)
$3M opening
71% week 2 drop
$6.7M worldwide
It Lives Inside (2023)
$2.6M opening
72% week 2 drop
$7.4M worldwide
Neon is doing what it does well, a critically appreciated horror with a good star angle (leads Allison Brie and Dave Franco are married).
Together will recoup when it hits internationally.
$2.5M - Sketch - (Angel Studios)
$5M domestic total
RT: 97%
Week 1
This is a decent result for Angel Studios. Although notably this is outside their usual domain of faith-based films. It is on par with their other 2025 release non-faith based film:
Rule Breakers (2025)
$1.5M opening
$3M domestic total
$3M worldwide
But nowhere near Angel Studios top opening this year:
The King of Kings
$19.4M opening
$60.3M domestic total
$75.7M worldwide
Here are the lowest-grossing films of the week:
$58.3K - Cloud (Janus Films)
$58.3K domestic total
$287.5K worldwide
$1K /screen average
Premiere: Venice, TIFF
Week 4
$21.4K - Materialists (A24)
$36.5M domestic total
$67.3M worldwide
$1.1K /screen average
Cast: Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans
Week 9
$15K - Boys Go to Jupiter (Cartuna)
$159 /screen average
Premiere: Tribeca
Week 1
Magnolia Pictures’ It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley earned $400K in its opening weekend, with a strong per-screen average of $3.2K/screen. The film premiered at Sundance.
