Rebel Moon Director's cut, now with more blood (and context):
Once upon a time in a Galaxy Far Far Away. Infamous slow-motion addict Zack Snyder pitched a new Star Wars film to Disney, who decided to pass. Burned a bit, Snyder went to Netflix, who offered to fund his multiple movies if Snyder would agree to make PG-13 versions of the movies first, only to be followed by his uncensored "Snyder-cuts" trying to artificially drum up a bit of the hype and controversy of the Justice League debacle years back.
Now, two years after the release of Rebel Moon Part 1 and 2 and two festering rotten tomatoes of 22% and 17%, respectively, where are we in this slow-rolled torturous franchise launch, and when will it stop?
Well, the Moon's shadow lingers with a recent release of Rebel Moon Part 1's director cut, which will feature over an hour of new footage and gallons of CGI blood. Some fans (even outside of the Snyder cult) are hopeful, potentially the extra footage will lead to some much needed context that original cut seemed to lack.
One could even say that there is something poetic about a corpse drifting lazily through a liminal space only to explode into chunks of computerized gore.
There are shades of the movie 300 in this trailer, Snyder's first hit that brought him to us. Arguably, there are too many gore-hungry viewers; adding a pint of blood could saturate the dry story, but will it do anything to elevate the silly bro philosophy that got us here in the first place?
