Relay & Hell or High Water Director David Mackenzie Interview

David Mackenzie is one of the greatest (unsung) directors of the 21st century.

I sat down with David to discuss his latest film, Relay, starring Riz Ahmed, Lily James, and Sam Worthington.

Synopsis:

A broker of lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten them breaks his own rules when a new client seeks his protection to stay alive.

It’s an edge-of-your-seat thriller that has a brilliant script. I won’t say any more.

Mackenzie has directed 11 feature films, including:

  • The Last Great Wilderness (2002)

    • Debut feature

    • Premiere: TIFF

  • Young Adam (2003)

    • Cast: Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton

    • Premiere: Cannes in Un Certain Regard

  • Hallam Foe (2007)

    • Winner: Silver Bear at Berlin

  • Perfect Sense (2011)

    • Cast: Ewan McGregor and Eva Green

Mackenzie is best known for directing Hell or High Water (2016), which shares DNA with Relay.

Both films glorify those who make the wrong legal choices, but do so for outstanding moral reasons.
